CYRM at Taft

CYRM at Taft

Welcome to the Taft Middle School

California Young Reader Medal group!

The California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) program encourages recreational reading of popular literature among the young people of our state. Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal.

Young people recommend the titles of their favorite books for nomination, or teachers and librarians note repeatedly read or requested titles, and these are submitted to the California Young Reader Medal Committee. Members of the committee read the suggested books, discuss their merits and appeal to children, and then decide upon a well-balanced list of nominees. You may find additional information about the CYRM at http://www.californiayoungreadermedal.org/

THE RULES:

Here is the fine print to participate in the CYRM voting process at Taft.

  • To become a qualified voter, you must experience all the nominated books in a category by reading the books, having the books read to you, or using a combination of the two.
  • You may read books in more than one category, but you must complete each category to be able to vote in that category.
  • You are entitled to ONE vote in each category you complete.
  • Votes placed the week before spring break will count towards the totals sent to the CYRM office.

Remember, If you have already read any of the CYRM titles, they count towards your total and you will not have to re-read them.
