Dear Taft Families, 

This is Principal Garcia-Rubio calling with our weekly announcements. We hope everyone enjoyed your weekend!  This Wednesday, May 4, 2022, is a Regular School Day.  School will dismiss at 3:49 p.m.

PERIOD 4 PROGRESS REPORT 

P4 Grades are now available for viewing on PowerSchool. Please contact your child’s teacher directly via email if you have any questions regarding missing assignments.

FAMILY NIGHT VIA ZOOM THIS WEEK

Our Taft Team will host a Family Night on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.  We invite all of our families to join us via Zoom - 858 935 2650 to learn about our programs at Taft.   We will start at 6:00 p.m.

ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC) MTG, Thursday,May 5th

There will be an ELAC Meeting on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.  via Zoom - 858 935 2650.  All are welcome to attend. 

STAFF/TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY--Tuesday, May 4, 2022

The Taft Team is comprised of caring adults who support our students in both their academic and social development.  We appreciate each and every staff member who works with our young people.  

LOOKING AHEAD:

2021-2022 STATE TESTING

State testing will begin on Monday, May 9, 2022.  Please be on the lookout for more information.  We ask that you support our students by making sure they are rested on the days they test. We will have a modified block schedule to ensure our students have enough time to test in English Language Arts and Math.

SPRING OPEN HOUSE/STUDENT SHOWCASE--5/25/2022

 We will host our Spring Open House on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. This will be an in person event from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Our students will be sharing what they have learned this year with our community.

 

8TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY June 14th @ 9:00 am 

Eligibility criteria for the promotion ceremony, as well as all other 8th grade activities, are as follows but NOT limited to:

  • A minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 on the P4 progress report
  • No more than one F on the the P4 progress report
  • No more than one U on the P4 progress report 
  • No suspensions after the P3 progress report

AFTER SCHOOL LEVEL UP EVENTS

STEM-ROBOTICS

Greater than Tech will start on Tuesdays after school from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  They will meet in Room 704 ONCE A WEEK!

LABRATS--FORENSICS 

Below is the Link for a new LevelUP Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program sponsored by LabRats.  This four (4) week program will be focused on Science experiments and teaching students responsible Laboratory Protocols.  LabRats will be on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 pm starting Apr 27, 2022.  Students are encouraged to use the link below to sign up for this exciting new program.

THE ROSIN BOX PROJECT DANCE COMPANY

Celebrated dance teachers are working with Taft Middle School students on their dance techniques and creative group choreography thru Jun 14, 2022 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm and 2:30-4:00pm on Minimum Days.   The program is an after school program initiated through Level Up.

DEVISED THEATER PROGRAM

The La Jolla Playhouse Teaching Artists is conducting an exciting, personalized exploration of community and history through fun theater games and exercises. 

This program is sponsored by LEVEL UP and the 2nd Session will be Mon-Fri starting April 25th-May 13th.  See link below for more information.

SDUSD MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS LEAGUES - SOCCER  

Team Practices are Monday and Wednesday from 4 pm-5:50 pm at Cubberley Elementary School.  

SPRING LEVEL UP FREE TENNIS OPPORTUNITY

Through a partnership with Youth Tennis San Diego, Taft is offering free after-school tennis lessons on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:50-4:50.  No experience or equipment is needed. For more information contact Coach Gonzalez at [email protected].

LEVEL UP MORNING ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Registration for the Level Up Morning Academic Program (Summer School) has ended.  However if you were not able to register and still want your child to attend please contact Dr. Iverson at [email protected] to confirm your interest.

2022 PrimeTime Summer Program

Program Dates:  Tuesday, June 21 - Tuesday, August 2 (30 days/closed July 5) 

Program Hours: Hours vary based on the school's Summer Experience schedule.

Student Eligibility:  SDUSD students attending the Summer Experience in the morning will be eligible to apply to participate in PrimeTime in the afternoon at the same school site including students in Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) through eighth grade during the 2021-22 school year.
