Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also referred to as Health Care Reform, puts in place comprehensive health insurance reforms. While the changes are significant, below are some of the improvements for employees covered under the District's Plans:

Extending Coverage for Young Adults. Under the law, young adults will be allowed to stay on their parents' plan until they turn 26 years old (this right does not apply if the young adult is offered insurance at work).

In-Network Preventive Services Are Covered at No Cost. The preventive services described in the link below are covered at no cost if received from an in-network provider.

2015 Notice Requirement Under the ACA: Notice of Health Insurance Exchanges (One-time notice requirement, Fall 2015).

The ACA requires that all employers disclose certain information regarding the health insurance exchanges to their employees. Health insurance exchanges are state or federally run marketplaces where individuals and small businesses can purchase health insurance.
