How to Obtain A Substitute Assignment

If you are a Visiting Teacher, substitute paraprofessional or clerical employee, you may obtain your assignment using the Substitute Assignment Management System ("SAMS") through the SmartFind Express online system. This system uses both an interactive voice response and internet based system.

NOTE: when logging in to the system, you will be asked to verify you are not a robot using reCAPTCHA technology which asks you to identify a series of photographic images.

You may also obtain work by waiting for the interactive voice response system to call and offer you an assignment. The system call out times are as follows:

  • Weekdays
    • 5:00 a.m.-11:55 a.m.
    • 5:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m
  • Weekends / Holidays
    • 5:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Sick Leave for Substitute Employees

The Healthy Workplaces Healthy Families Act of 2014 provides paid sick leave to substitute employees, who on or after July 1, 2015 works for 30 days or more in a year (July 1-June 30). Eligible employees will accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every thirty hours worked through the course of the fiscal year.
